Lil Durk‘s attorneys in his murder-for-hire trial contend that the prosecution’s focus on his lyrics signals a deficiency in their case.

According to reports, the rapper’s legal team harshly criticized the decision to cite his lyrics, calling it a sign of the prosecution’s inability to present solid evidence. His lawyers stated, “When you see an artist’s rap lyrics quoted as ‘evidence’ against them, it is a glaring indication that there is no real evidence against that person.” Authorities have implicated Durk in orchestrating the August 2022 killing of Quando Rondo‘s cousin, Saviaya’a Robinson.

Prosecutors argue that the rapper referenced his involvement in the crime within his lyrics on Babyface Ray’s track, “Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy.” He says in the song, “Told me they got an addy (gooo) / Got location (gooo) Green light (go, go, go, go, go) / Look on the news and see your son, You screamin’, ‘No, no’ (pussy!).” The verse emerged in December 2022, long after Robinson’s passing.

Lil Durk’s Lawyers Vow to Fight Allegations

Durk’s legal team said, “The claims in the indictment against Mr. Banks are false and lacking in the most basic due diligence. The real truth is that Durk Banks is a Grammy Award-winning artist, a dedicated father, and a loving husband.” “Mr. Banks has been intensely committed to giving back to the Chicago community he loves through his Neighborhood Heroes Foundation and has put on more than a dozen charitable events over the last few years. He is looking forward to fighting against these false allegations in court.”

In October, Lil Durk was taken into custody in Florida, accused of orchestrating a murder-for-hire scheme aimed at Quando Rondo as retribution for the 2020 killing of King Von. Although Rondo survived the attack, his cousin tragically lost his life. The indictment connected credit cards tied to the plot with Durk’s OTF crew. Last month, a superseding federal grand jury indictment brought two additional felony charges against him.

In the wake of these developments, 50 Cent voiced his belief that Durk has a strong chance of overcoming the charges, citing his defense by renowned attorney Drew Findling, who has represented high-profile clients like Lil Baby and Cardi B.
