Lil Uzi Vert recently gave an unfiltered interview on Pitchfork’s Over/Under series, where he addressed two major topics making waves on the internet: music leaks and the growing trend of using whippets. The Philadelphia rapper didn’t hold back, sharing his strong opinions about both issues.
On the topic of music leaks, Uzi voiced his frustration with those responsible for exposing unfinished tracks before he’s ready to release them. He likened it to invading his privacy, explaining that when fans listen to leaked songs, they’re essentially catching him “getting dressed in my closet.” He continued, “Leaks be so overrated… Y’all not giving me a second to get dressed. So before I could dress the song up, y’all judge it.” Uzi’s frustration is clear as he points out how damaging it can be when people judge unfinished work. “Leaks are horrible,” he said bluntly. “It’s not even an over or underrated, horrible.”
Shifting to a different topic, Uzi also addressed the rising trend of whippets, a recreational drug that has gained popularity on social media. Uzi wasted no time in condemning the practice, calling it “overrated” and warning against its dangers. “Yo. Don’t do them, they is bad,” he stated. “They have you eatin’ food you never ate. They have you hangin’ with people you never hung with.” His message was clear: whippets might seem like fun in the moment, but they come with serious risks. He even went further to explain that he’s not one to shy away from “bad things,” but whippets were a hard no. “Whippets are f****** bad, bro. Like, really bad.”
Uzi’s interview comes at a time when his album Eternal Atake 2 is stirring conversations. The album features tracks that reference his past struggles with substance use. His comments reflect a deeper understanding of the pressures of fame. They also show his commitment to sharing his authentic self. This authenticity is evident in both his music and his personal life.
