Things are getting messy…
Lizzo is catching major heat after three of her former dancers filed a lawsuit against her. Arianna Davis, Noelle Rodriguez, and Crystal Williams say they were sexually, racially, and religiously harassed by the singer and her team. In addition, Lizzo allegedly created a hostile work environment.
AP reports, “The court filing claims that after performing at a concert in Amsterdam, Lizzo and her crew attended a sexually themed show at a club in the city’s notorious Red Light District where ‘Lizzo began inviting cast members to take turns touching the nude performers.’ It continues,
“During the show, Lizzo led a chant pressuring Davis to touch the breasts of one of the nude women performing at the club, the filing says. ‘Finally, the chorus became overwhelming, and a mortified Ms. Davis acquiesced in an attempt to bring an end to the chants,’ the complaint states.”
The Root points out, a former director of the Love, Lizzo documentary, Sophia Nahli Allison backed up the bad work environment claims, and said she quit the project due to it. Allison said, “Lizzo creates an extremely toxic and hostile work environment and undermines the work, labor and authrority of other Black and brown womxn in the process.”
Shirlene Quigley, the captain of Lizzo’s dance team, is also accused of trying to convert the dancers to her religion. It is not clear which one, but the court document says she allegedly chastised the dancers for having sex before marriage. Quigley posted a bizarre video, instead of addressing the situation, she shared a post talking about how good God is. Take a look:
The three plaintiffs are seeking an unspecified amount of punitive damages, medical expenses, and attorneys’ fees as well as benefits for violations of their civil rights through the Fair Employment and Housing Act.
Lizzo hasn’t publicly spoken out as of yet.
