Mad Skillz has returned to drop an unexpected “2024 Rap Up.”

For 20 years, Skills gave the culture an annual rap up of the year but retired in 2021 from dropping bars about the happenings of the year. Now, the Richmond native is back to give his hilarious take on the highs and lows of the year.

“Oh, you wasn’t expecting this. What up y’all, it’s your boy Mad Skillz, he says in the intro.

“I’ve been gone for a minute now. I’m back with the rap up/It was  crazy ass yesterday so you know I’m about to act up/And it starts right now/It’s about to go down/ Usher, the homie went crazy on that Super Bowl stage/Hey, and every song was bop/then yall came for Jermaine in his lollypop socks.”

“Snoop did the Olympics/ Katt Williams told all y’all’s business/Club say Shay was a vibe/ Was Shannon Sharpe really f*cking on live/and we don’t won’t re relive that sh*t/Damn, aint need to hear that shit.”

Also, Skillz can not contain his excitement about his Grammy nomination for his latest album, “The 7 Number Ones.” Previously, he was once nominated for a Grammy as a writer on Nicki Minaj’s The Pinkprint. This is his first nomination as a lead artist.

Speaking with ABC affiliate 8News, he spoke about how it felt to be nominated.

“When something happens for the first time, it’s a memory that stays with you, good or bad. In that ideology, I had a project… I wanted to talk about seven things that happened in my life. They changed the trajectory of my life,” Skillz said. “I think everyone can relate to it — and people listen and start thinking about their number ones.”

“I share this nomination with five other creators in the City who are amazing artists in their own right. I’m probably more happy for them than I am with myself,” he continued Participating in a Grammy album is huge. And it’s no better than to do with your homies and your friends from your hometown.”
