Marlon Wayans speaks out on his ongoing custody dispute with ex Brittany Moreland over their 18-month-old daughter, Axl, stating his desire for her well-being.
Before the release of his new stand-up special Good Grief, the actor-comedian, in an interview with People for their May issue, emphasized the seriousness with which he approaches the situation.
“I don’t do public battles,” the 51-year-old told the outlet. “You don’t have to be together to let your child grow up in peace. Every child deserves that.”
On Monday (July 8), Wayans responded to Moreland’s petition for full custody, seeking joint legal and physical custody of their 18-month-old daughter and joint payment of legal fees, say recent court documents obtained by People.
In March, Moreland filed a petition to obtain full legal and physical custody of the child she once accused Wayans of keeping a “secret,” asking that Wayans receive visitation rights, along with a hefty increase in child support payments.
Speaking with The Shade Room, the Little Man star openly addressed the filing seemingly calling it a cash grab. “It’s the classic case of a good, loving, responsible father shelling out over $18k per month for a one-year-old, and an entitled woman decides she wants more,” he said. “My mama and dem would’ve lost their minds for $2k,” implying that many women would be satisfied with a lot less. Moreland is asking that her current child support amount be raised from $18,000 to $20,000 since her monthly expenses are the latter.”
Regarding the issue of him keeping his child away from prying eyes, Wayans clarified, stating: “All love, all God. The baby isn’t a secret. The mama has been posted. But I chose to keep the baby’s private life private,” he said. “Ain’t nobody’s business. Social media is toxic and dangerous, and I’d like to keep her peace.”
Wayans, who shares sons Kai and Shawn with ex Angela Zackery from a relationship spanning 1992 to 2013, welcomed daughter Axl on Dec. 12, 2022, and signed a voluntary declaration of parentage the next day.
