Martha Stewart went on The Today Show with Hoda and Jenna on Thursday (Nov. 3) morning to let Mariah Carey know that “you cannot give up Thanksgiving” just because she said so.
“Mariah, you know me. I am a traditionalist with a twist. You cannot give up Thanksgiving. Just because you don’t like turkey? I love turkey, and many, many other people love turkey,” Stewart said during her interview. “So, do not think that we are going to give up Thanksgiving just because you say so,” she added.
Stewart did admit that there are no special Thanksgiving songs but she believes that the holiday is still meaningful. “There are no Thanksgiving songs,” the 81-year-old businesswomen continued. “So songs are OK. You can skip [Thanksgiving] with your music. I think we need Thanksgiving. It’s sort of an uplifting remembering of good times past.”
On Tuesday (Nov. 1), the Grammy Award-winning singer posted a video of herself on social media dressed up as a witch before transforming into a Santa Claus-inspired bodysuit, while she sat on a reindeer. She sang “It’s time” while her hit single “All I Want for Christmas Is You” played in the background. “IT’S TIIIIIIIIME!!!!!!!! #MariahSZN,” Carey wrote as the caption.
With over 16 million copies sold worldwide, “All I Want For Christmas” is the best-selling holiday song by a female artist, and one of the best-selling physical singles in music history. The song was released in 1994 as the lead single from Carey’s fourth studio album and first holiday album, Merry Christmas.
On Thursday (Nov. 3) night, the singer responded to Stewart on Twitter by inviting her over for Thanksgiving dinner. “Dearest Martha!! NEVER will I give up Thanksgiving!! But we can still start getting into the festive spirit now!” Carey began. “P.S I’d love to have you at my Thanksgiving dinner although I’ve yet to be invited to your Thanksgiving extravaganza! And THAT is MAJOR! [Especially] if Snoop’s coming!”
