Mary J. Blige is getting a few things off her mind!
During an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, the R&B singer talked about the impact Lil Kim has had on female rap. Mary calls Kim her baby girl/little sister and said she opened doors for many women in the industry.
“My baby girl, my little sister, I mean, one of the most incredible female rappers to open the door for so many women. She’s a trailblazer and one of the biggest rappers [and] most respected rappers in the business.”
Later in the conversation, Andy Cohen brought up the infamous moment when icon Diana Ross came on stage and flicked Lil Kim’s breast at the 1999 VMA’s. On stage, Lil Kim didn’t seem to mind, but her good friend Mary did. Mary said she was “embarrassed” for Kim.
“I was embarrassed for Kim. I was really pissed when that happened ’cause that’s my little sister, my friend. Kim is courageous.”
Mary is big on respect, especially for women, and wants people to respect the ladies in the industry. Take a look:
The Jasmine Brand reported last year Kim spoke about the situation and wasn’t bothered at all. She said,
“That’s legendary. The boss. I love Diana Ross. I always say if I did a movie about my life, she would play my mom.”
