Mary J. Blige Talks Retiring From Music

Mary J. Blige talks about the future of her career and when she plans on hanging the mic up.

During a recent interview, Blige explains, “right now, I’m definitely gonna do some more acting and I’m definitely gonna retire in, like, five or six years,” Blige told EXTRA. “Right now, I’m still doing what I’m doing but not as often as I was doing it because I don’t have to now.”

While she is still making music – fans can expect to hear a sweet tune of love. The songstress says, “singing about life … love … being stable and understanding you can have things like love. You can have a good life.”

“Mostly the love I have for myself,” she told EXTRA. “… My real love is me and I found it.”

Blige has a lot of beautiful things coming up as it was announced that she will be inducted into the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She’ll be inducted alongside Cher, Kool & the Gang, Ozzy Osbourne and A Tribe Called Quest, and more.

Blige said she is “still trying to process everything.” To be honored she says it “the most amazing thing … it is in a class by itself.” 

The queen of Hip-Hop soul is also set to perform at the ceremony. It is set to take place on Oct. 19 in Cleveland.
