Mental health is one of the most important issues in society. In the world of Hip-Hop, many in the culture have been outspoken about what they do to preserve their mental health. Recently, legendary rapper and actor Method Man added his voice to the discussion by candidly speaking about his ongoing struggles with depression.
While making an appearance with Fat Joe on his Starz series “Fat Joe Talks”, Method Man opened up about his mental health battles.
“It never really goes away,” Method Man shared. “You have, like, I said, I have bouts with it and things.”
Method Man also spoke about the need for people to check in with those who they care about because no one really knows the struggles someone is encountering in private.
“The point I’m trying to make is every now and then when you get a thought like, ‘Damn, I wonder what this person’s doing,’ act on it,” Method Man explained. “Call them, see how they doing, or find some way to get in contact with them. It never hurts. You have no idea how much that could mean to them. He highlighted a close friend in his life whose check-in meant a lot to him. “Dave saw that, and he just sent me a beautiful text message… and it spoke to me, big time,” he said. “And all I could put was, ‘All of this,’ with a heart emoji. I don’t even get heart emojis son but yeah.”
During the conversation, Method Man shared that he is currently at work on a memoir about growing up on Staten Island to his meteoric rise to global superstardom. The title of the forthcoming book might even come from one of his signature songs.
“It might be [titled], ‘Bring The Pain,’ because there’s a lot of that,” he said.
He also revealed his feelings about the attention he continues to receive from so many ladies as one of the most beloved rappers.
“I’ma show it off while I still got it, but here’s the thing, right? I love the admiration. I love it,” Method Man went on. “Does it get awkward at times? Absolutely! Sometimes you just want to blend in with everybody else and I’m that type of person.”
