Michael Jackson Biopic, ‘Michael,’ Releases First Look Image

Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic, starring Michael Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, 27, as the King of Pop released it’s first image on Friday evening (Jan. 19).

The black-and-white photo by Jourdynn Jackson of Jaafar performing the signature toe jump would be released on via his Instagram account with the caption, “The Journey Starts Monday. #Michaelmovie.”

 

 

The Instagram post would receive over 49,000 likes and over 2,500 comments within a matter of hours. The photo is one of two Instagram posts on Jaafar’s account that includes a second photo by Jourdynn Jackson from January 2023 of Jaafar practicing his uncle’s signature dance moves. The other photo’s caption says, “I’m humbled and honored to bring my Uncle Michael’s story to life. To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon.”

The upcoming biopic will be directed by Equalizer director Antoine Fuqua. Michael was written by Gladiator (2000) writer John Logan.

Set for release on April 18, 2025 by Lionsgate, the biopic will cover the life of the pop icon dating as early as him being a child star with The Jackson 5, breakout as a solo act in the 80s, becoming the King of Pop in the 90s, and all the controversy in between. Here’s the synopsis:

“Michael will bring audiences a riveting and honest portrayal of the brilliant yet complicated man who became the King of Pop. The film presents his triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale — from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, exemplified by his most iconic performances. As never before, audiences will experience an inside look into one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known.”

Jaafar is the son of Michael Jackson’s oldest brother Jermaine Jackson. Jaafar began signing and dancing at 12.  For Michael, Jaafar endured a two year casting process.

Michael Jackson was one of the biggest influences in hip-hop and delivered some of the culture’s biggest moments ever. His surprise appearance at Hot 97 Summerjam 2001 is constantly references on social media today.
