Mike Tyson experienced a medical emergency during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles on Sunday. According to his representative, the 57-year-old boxing legend “became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing.” Tyson’s rep mentioned Monday, May 27th, that he is grateful for the assistance he received from the onboard medical staff, adding that he is now “doing great.”
Initially reported by In Touch Weekly as an “apparent medical scare,” Tyson’s rep clarified that there was no delay in takeoff due to his condition. Instead, any delay was attributed to an air conditioning issue on the aircraft.
This health emergency comes just two months before Tyson is set to return to the ring to face Jake Paul. The “Hangover” actor called the upcoming match a “no-brainer” when it was announced earlier this month, saying, “He’s the new up-and-coming guy on the scene. I like shaking the sports world to its core, and I’m doing that now. It’s just something I want to do. No one else can do this. Who else can shut the sporting world down? No one else can do it.” Despite his enthusiasm, Tyson admitted that his “body is s–t.”
Tyson has been sharing his intense training regimen on Instagram, showing his followers that he is getting “back at it.” Meanwhile, Paul, 27, has been documenting his own preparations on social media. In a playful video, Paul joked, “I’m gonna bite your ear off Mikey,” referencing Tyson’s infamous 1997 fight with Evander Holyfield. At a recent press conference, Paul, who has previously fought Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, and Anderson Silva, declared himself a “natural-born heavyweight” and expressed confidence in his ability to take on Tyson. “I’m gonna show Mike who has more power. I think he’s underestimating me. I think everyone else is underestimating me.”
Tyson’s illustrious career spanned from 1985 to 2005, during which he was the undisputed heavyweight champion for four years. The highly anticipated fight between Tyson and Paul will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and will stream live on Netflix on July 20.
