Missy Elliott has made history as the third female rapper in the U.S. to gross over $2 million from a single concert.

Touring Data broke the news on September 26. She now joins the ranks of Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj, further cementing her legacy as a groundbreaking artist. With her distinctive style and innovative sound, Elliott remains a powerful force in Hip-Hop, continuing to push boundaries and break records.

On August 8, 2024, Elliott achieved her highest-grossing concert to date during her “Out of This World Tour” at Washington D.C.’s Capital One Arena, earning $2.05 million. The success of this concert is just one of many milestones in her legendary career.

In another historic achievement, Missy Elliott became the first Hip-Hop artist to have a song transmitted to space. Her track “The Rain” was sent to Venus through NASA’s Deep Space Network, making it the second song ever transmitted into space, following The Beatles’ “Across the Universe.”

Elliott celebrated the achievement on social media, writing, “YOOO this is crazy! We just went #OutOfThisWorld with @NASA and sent the FIRST hip-hop song into space… My song ‘The Rain’ has officially been transmitted all the way to Venus, the planet that symbolizes strength, beauty, and empowerment. The sky is not the limit, it’s just the beginning.”

Elliott’s influence extends beyond her music. Timbaland, her longtime collaborator, praised her at the 2023 AFROTECH™ Conference, crediting her for launching his successful career as a producer. Reflecting on his early days, Timbaland shared how his love for music began in childhood, initially dreaming of becoming a DJ. During a challenging time, his mother gifted him a Casio keyboard, and he developed his now-famous sound by experimenting with its one-second sampler.

Timbaland acknowledged that Missy Elliott recognized his unique talent early on. “If it wasn’t for Missy, I probably wouldn’t be Timbaland today,” he said. “She was the one that said, ‘Yo, you have a gift. Your sound is unique,’ when I thought my sound was trash. She pushed me to go harder, and that’s when I knew I wanted to be a producer.”
