Nicki Minaj has been a force in hip-hop music for almost two decades, so it’s no surprise Spotify wanted to honor her contributions. However, the artist says she allegedly declined to be part of the new exhibit. Several other female rappers like Flo Milli, Cardi B, and Doja Cat were also tapped to have their portraits featured in the series. The exhibition debuted in New York City at the Hole Contemporary Art Gallery. While it’s unclear what prompted Nicki Minaj’s decision, it left her fans (and the artist) disappointed.

“A month and a half earlier I was contacted by @spotify to create 11 portraits and a general composition for the exhibition « The Gold Standard »,” the artist wrote in a post shared by The Shade Room. “This was to be my first solo exhibition!! I was honored to draw portraits of Cardi B, City Girls, Doja Cat, Flo Milli, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, Saweetie, and Sexy Red.” While many folks were pleased with the exhibit, the Barbz were left scratching their heads. The artist eventually acknowledged questions about Minaj’s absence, writing “Don’t come after me in my DMs, Nicki didn’t want to be part of the show.”

Safaree Speaks On Past Relationship With Nicki Minaj

In other news, Nicki Minaj’s ex and Love and Hip Hop star, Safaree recently opened up about their past relationship. He revealed their 2014 breakup left him in a “dark” place. “I was with Nicki, we broke up. So her fans and certain people wanted it to be like, ‘okay, they’re not together anymore… f*** him. Let him be nothing, let him disintegrate, let him disappear,’” he told the We In Miami Podcast.

He also acknowledged his feelings on Nicki Minaj’s former relationship with Meek Mill: “I had two of the biggest people in the world against me… That made everybody be against me. Nobody wanted to be next to me. Nobody wanted to work with me. It just made everything hard. That was a dark time for me.” Safaree adds, “10 years later, 10-15 TV shows later… I’m still here. Some people don’t like that.”
