“Red Ruby Da Sleeze” is Nicki’s first solo single since “Super Freaky Girl”
Today (March 3), Nicki Minaj dropped “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” with Young Money/Republic Records. The Queen rapper teased fans with snippets of the song weeks before the release.
A day ahead of the song’s reveal, the Trinidadian artist shared, “#RedRubyDaSleeze tmrw night 🥢 ghost writers all around the world are scrambling 🫣🤣Just watch. Nicki still on hiatus. This b!@ch right here tho? She outside. 〽️🅱️🐝 “
The veteran rapper fully taps into her Chun-Li alter ego for “Red Ruby Da Sleeze”. For the song’s promotional photos, Nicki sported ruby and pink hair buns with chopsticks while being fixated on a table eating Chinese food. She further channels the Chun-Li spirit in the opening verse, “Red Ruby da Sleeze/ Chinese on my sleeves/These wanna be Chun Li’s/ Anyway ni hao.”
In true Nicki fashion, she brings confident lyricism and percussive bars over a production sampling Lumidee’s “Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh).”
