O.J. Simpson, whose real name is Orenthal James Simpson, has called on Elon Musk to verify his Twitter account.
In a video posted on his Twitter account on Friday (Oct. 28), the former NFL player said, “Hey, Twitter world, it’s me, yours truly. Let me start off today by congratulating Elon Musk for taking over Twitter. Maybe I can get authenticated. Maybe I can get a blue check.”
Simpson, 75, complained that there are many fake accounts impersonating him on the social media platform. “I’ve tried for years to get that blue check because there’s so many fake O. J. Simpson accounts,” he continued. “There have been a bunch of them, and from time to time, people would say, ‘Why did you say this?’ And I’d say, ‘I didn’t say it. That was one of those fake accounts.’”
He added, “A lot of people probably deal with that, so maybe that will come to an end.”
As previously reported by HOT 97, Musk, co-founder of Tesla and the richest person in the world, purchased Twitter for $44 billion. According to reports, Musk fired the social media platform’s CEO Parag Agrawal. Sources said he also fired CFO Ned Segal, the policy head Vijaya Gadde, and the general counsel Sean Edgett after he completed the deal. On Thursday (Oct. 27), he took to his Twitter account to tell everyone that “the bird is freed.”
In 1995, Simpson was famously acquitted for the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman. A jury ordered him to pay $33.5 million to the victims’ families after he was found liable for their deaths. In 2007, the former football running back was convicted of an armed robbery and sentenced to 33 years in prison. He was released in 2017 for good behavior and in 2021 he was discharged from parole.
