Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of the Chiefs quarterback and three-time Super Bowl champion, has started his 10-day prison sentence, following his DUI arrest in February. According to reports, the father began his sentence on Tuesday and is set to be released on October 31st. Mahomes Sr. is spending 10 days at Smith County (Texas) Jail after his arrest for a DUI charge on February 3rd.

As part of his plea deal, Mahomes Sr. admitted guilt to the charge last August. He was sentenced to a five-year probation period, which accompanies his current jail time. In 2019, he faced a second DWI charge, which resulted in a 40-day jail sentence spanning 2019 and 2020. Nonetheless, during his February arrest in Tyler, Texas, the 11-season MLB veteran sought to leverage his son’s upcoming Super Bowl appearance as a means to evade legal repercussions.

He stated, “Can I say one thing?” to the arresting officer. “My son is getting ready to play in the f–king Super Bowl, OK? Just listen to me. I am not drunk. I promise you. I’ve had some drinks. But he can’t have this right now. Listen, this can’t happen … Patrick Mahomes.” Officers then checked his registration only to find it expired, following a sobriety test that resulted in his arrest. Mahomes Sr. told authorities he only consumed a few drinks prior to the incident while keeping an open 16-ounce Coors beer in his car, which contradicted his claims.

Mahomes Sr. Laments Scandal Ahead of Son’s Super Bowl Victory

The father expressed, “We’ve never had a star here in this area and now we got a chance to be a star and now we going to have a scandal now.” “We’re gonna have a scandal for no f–king reason because my registration when he gifted me the car hasn’t gotten in yet, which would probably be in in the next day or two.”

He continued, “Dude, this is crazy. My son is getting ready to play in the f–king Super Bowl and I’m doing interviews, five or six a day, and then, now, this s–t’s going to be on the news which is going to f–k with him, and it’s probably going to f–k him up.” “And he probably won’t win the Super Bowl. But that’s fine. If that’s what y’all want to do, that’s good.”

Mahomes Sr. secured his release after posting a $10,000 bond. Despite the scandal, the Chiefs secured their third Super Bowl title in five years with a 25-22 overtime victory against the 49ers. Patrick Mahomes Sr. was present for his son’s latest championship win, even amid his recent arrest.
