Rapper Polo G, whose real name is Taurus Bartlett, faced gun charges after a loaded Glock was discovered by a maid cleaning his room at the Dominick Hotel in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood.
The 25-year-old artist, known for his successful debut album “Die a Legend,” was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court for criminal possession of a weapon and firearm.
Police responded to the hotel after the maid reported finding the loaded gun on a loveseat in Polo G’s room. The black Glock was loaded with a bullet in the chamber and nine bullets in the magazine, according to a criminal complaint.
During the court proceedings, Polo G’s attorney emphasized his client’s seriousness and professionalism in his career, indicating that he had no reason to flee given his established success.
However, prosecutors argued that Polo G was a flight risk due to prior legal issues, including a misdemeanor conviction and arrests on kidnapping, robbery, and assault charges in Los Angeles last August.
Despite the prosecution’s concerns, Judge Kevin McGrath set bail at $25,000 cash, which Polo G promptly posted after the court session.
The incident underscores legal challenges for Polo G, who has gained recognition in the music industry but has also faced legal troubles in the past. The discovery of the loaded firearm at the upscale hotel resulted in criminal charges, adding to the rapper’s legal history.
