Quavo, the renowned rapper and member of Migos, is stepping up his efforts to combat community violence through his Rocket Foundation.
In a recent announcement, Quavo unveiled the “SPARK Grants” program, designed to provide financial support to organizations dedicated to minimizing violence in Atlanta and other communities.
The Rocket Foundation, established by Quavo in 2022, was born out of tragedy. The untimely death of his group member and nephew, Takeoff, who fell victim to gun violence, served as the impetus for its creation.
Determined to honor Takeoff’s memory and address the broader issue of gun violence in America, Quavo launched the Rocket Foundation with a primary focus on his hometown of Atlanta.
The “SPARK Grants” initiative aims to make a tangible difference by awarding $10,000 grants to ten Atlanta-based organizations. This substantial investment, totaling $100,000, is intended to provide crucial support to community-driven efforts and amplify the foundation’s message of peace and safety.
Quavo’s dedication to this cause was further highlighted by his involvement in the Congressional Black Caucus event in Washington, D.C., last September. During this event, he had the opportunity to meet with Vice President Kamala Harris, whose subsequent launch of the White House’s Office of Gun Violence Prevention bolstered the Rocket Foundation’s mission on a national scale.
With violence continuing to plague communities, Quavo emphasized the importance of supporting grassroots organizations actively working to make a difference. The application process for the “SPARK Grants” opens on March 20, with organizations encouraged to submit their proposals by April 21st. Grant recipients will be announced on June 18th, a significant date as it coincides with Takeoff’s birthday and National Gun Violence Awareness Month.
Through initiatives like the “SPARK Grants,” Quavo and the Rocket Foundation are committed to empowering communities, saving lives, and creating a safer future for all. As Atlanta and cities across the nation grapple with the devastating impact of violence, Quavo’s efforts serve as a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change.
