Reason has left Top Dawg Entertainment after seven years with the legendary record label.
The “Extinct” hitmaker announced the departure on Tuesday (June 18) with an official statement. After Kendrick Lamar in 2023, he is the second artist to exit the decorated West Coast imprint. The Carson, California native signed with TDE in 2017 and released his debut album, There You Have It, in 2018.
Reason shared the exit letter on X with the caption, “Thank you for your love and support.”
In the formal announcement, he thanked the label for their support throughout his career and the fans for their support in the past, present, and future. It reads:
“THE LAST 7 YEARS HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLE, AND I’VE APPRECIATED ALL THE TIME AND EXPERIENCES THAT HAVE COME WITHIN THAT SPAN OF TIME. I CAN’T EVEN PUT INTO WORDS THE SURREAL FEELING I VE HAD OF BEING ABLE TO SHARE MY THOUGHTS, EXPRESSIONS, EMOTIONS, STORIES, AND EXPERIENCES WITH YOU ALL THROUGH THE PLATFORM PROVIDED TO ME BY TOP DAWG ENTERTAINMENT.
WITH THAT BEING SAID, IT COMES WITH GREAT APPRECIATION AND EXCITEMENT THAT I WANT TO ANNOUNCE MY SPLIT WITH TDE. I WANT TO GIVE A HUGE THANK YOU TO TOP HIMSELF, NOT ONLY FOR GIVING ME A CHANCE TO LIVE OUT MY DREAM BUT ALSO FOR HEARING ME AND UNDERSTANDING MY DECISION TO TRAVEL A DIFFERENT PATH AFTER THE YEARS. THERE’S TRULY NO WORDS FOR THE AMOUNT OF RESPECT I HAVE FOR YOU, AND THAT’LL NEVER CHANGE, NO MATTER WHAT.

Reason released his last TDE album, Porches, in August 2023. The album includes singles “You Betta,” “Call Me,” and features Doechii, SIR, August Alsina, and more.
The exit from Top Dawg Entertainment follows the rap star’s now-infamous conversation with manager and TDE President Anthony “Moosa” Tiffith Jr. on the BaccOnFrigg podcast in August 2023. After the podcast, Reason told the public that his relationship with TDE was “delicate” and “weird.”
Reason has previously recalled requesting his release from the label numerous times. He has released three albums under the label. He sparked a new buzz in 2024 after releasing a series of freestyles, including a highly-praised freestyle with the popular freestyle platform On The Radar.
