After previewing its development on his Instagram Story, Rick Ross responded to Drake’s diss track, “Push Ups,” in hours with his diss track, “Champagne Moments.”
Akademiks premiered the diss track on his Livestream Saturday afternoon (April 13) after receiving the song from Ross’s DJ. Ross would share a few subliminal tweets before responding as a preview. The two tweets were: “It’s the 1st qtr. This is going to be a good game. Grab a seat” and “Perfect day to boss up.”
In “Champagne Moments,” Ross refers to Drake as “White Boy,” which speaks to Drake’s biracial ethnicity while addressing Drake’s claims on “Push Ups,” like giving out rappers their first number ones, becoming a different person after fame, surgeries, and more. Ross ends the song by requesting Drake to check him directly like a gangster.
“N***as leakin’ they records when we speakin’ directly,” raps Ross. “If we keepin’ it gangsta, when you see me you check me”
Ross concluded the song by revealing the reason for their fallout over French Montana. “I unfollowed you because you sent the cease and desist to French Montana, n***a,” said Ross. “You sent the police, n***a, hated on my dog’s project, n***a, that wasn’t the same white boy I seen, n***, when we was making them early records.”
“This is getting outta hand,” said Akademiks to the audience after the song.
Drake and Rick Ross’s feud surfaced last month after Ross unfollowed Drake on social media. It was rumored that the two former collaborators had a falling out over women. During Drake’s Biggest The What tour in Miami last month, he invited Cristina Mackey, Ross’s ex-girlfriend, to attend.
Drake told Rick Ross to stay out of the beef and focus on cuffing other men’s women in his song “Push Ups.” Ross’s ex-fiancee, Lira Galore, had a past relationship with his protege, Meek Mill.
To Ross, Drake raps: “I might take your latest girl and cuff her like I’m Ricky / Can’t believe he jumpin’ in, this n***a turnin’ fifty / Every song that made it on the chart, he got from Drizzy / Spend that lil’ check you got and stay up out my business.”
Ross’s rival, 50 Cent, shared Drake’s diss track on Instagram, captioning it: “All you got smoked by a light-skinned n***a. LOL Y’ALL BETTER GET HIGH AS A MOTHER FVCKER AND COME UP WITH SOMETHING!”
