Rick Ross recently opened up about his controversial feuds in an interview with Shannon Sharpe on Nightcap Summer Sessions from Houston. The discussion shed light on his recent involvement in the high-profile 20 V. 1 Drake feud. This summer, Ross stirred the pot by targeting Drake on his track “Champagne Moments.” However, his actions seemingly backfired when he was attacked in Vancouver for playing Kendrick Lamar’s diss track aimed at Drake, “Not Like Us,” during a festival performance.
In April, a leaked diss track from Drake included the line, “I might take your latest girl and cuff her like Ricky / Can’t believe he’s jumping in, this n**** turning 50 / Every song that made it on the chart he got from Drizzy.” Ross fired back on his track “Champagne Moments,” addressing rumors about Drake undergoing cosmetic surgery with lines like, “You ain’t never wanted to be a n**** anyway n****, that’s why you had an operation that make your nose looks smaller than your father nose, n****. I unfollowed you, n****, ’cause you sent a motherf***** cease & desist to French Montana, n****.”
Drake responded by alleging that Ross had “gone loopy” in a text exchange. Ross’s remarks fueled more tension, and his diss backfired when he was attacked in Vancouver after playing Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us” at a festival.
In the interview, Ross explained his motivations behind diving into the feud. “On some rap sh*t it was no conspiracies,” Ross stated. “Rozay name was said, Rozay, I’mma jump off the porch. That’s what I do… I’mma jump off the porch and I’mma have some fun, and that’s what I did, I had some fun.”
Ross also discussed his strategy for responding to diss tracks, referencing a feud with The Game heated up after The Game released “Freeway’s Revenge” in May. The track targeted Ross with lines about his weight and former career as a correctional officer, including, “Cut open his stomach and stuff bricks in it. Put his body on a scale like there’s fish in it. I can see a b**** in him!” and “You 12 lemon pepper wings from a heart attack. Akademiks, get this n**** Ozempic starter pack.”
Although Ross did not respond directly to the diss, he used Instagram Stories for indirect comments, which he views as his way of responding. “Not responding is a response when you a boss,” he explained.
