Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, super producer and songwriter, has launched a new record label called Alienz Alive, dedicated to promoting faith-inspired artists.
The 46-year-old hitmaker’s label aims to build a community, develop artists, foster dialogue, and encourage storytelling that seeks truth and glorifies God.
With decades of experience working with music icons like Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, and Michael Jackson, Jerkins brings invaluable expertise to his new label. Created in 2022, Alienz Alive sees Jerkins developing each artist and actively managing the label’s daily operations.
The label’s inaugural roster includes five artists: Jon Keith, GAWVI, IMRSQD, Alex Jean, and TJ Carroll. On June 7, Jerkins introduced these artists with a montage of their latest singles.
In a statement, Jerkins shared his motivation for the label, saying, “When I thought about launching a new company, I knew it had to reflect my faith. I rapped in church as a kid and was featured on Kirk Franklin’s ‘Revolution,’ so this is a full circle moment for me. Launching this label feels revolutionary.”
Jerkins describes Alienz Alive as a Christ-centered creative community focused on artist development. “We encourage our artists to use their gifts to uplift and inspire. Musically, we draw influences from Hip Hop, R&B, and Indie Rock. As long as it glorifies God and it’s dope, all are welcome.”
In late May, the label celebrated its artists’ new music debuts. Alex Jean released his inspirational single “I Need Faith,” and IMRSQD shared his cautionary track “Don’t Do Molly.” Jon Keith delivered the upbeat pop hit “BAGS,” while GAWVI released “Into the Atmosfear,” his first solo track in three years. Another track, “Doors Down,” is set to drop next week.
TJ Carroll also delivered his trap-infused song “I’d Rather,” one of several tracks he has released through Alienz Alive since early 2023.
In other news, Jerkins hinted at a potential sequel to Brandy and Monica‘s classic R&B duet, “The Boy Is Mine.” “Time for the sequel,” commented Jerkins on Instagram.
The suggestion was inspired by two R&B legends’ appearances in the new Ariana Grande music video of the same title, which was released last week.
