Sexyy Red has sparked debate among fans following her performance at the 2024 Roots Picnic, where the stage was adorned with what some believed to be a giant MAGA-inspired hat.
On Monday (June 3) The Neighborhood Talk, took to Instagram where they shared a video clip of Sexyy Red performing “Bow Bow Bow (F My Baby Dad)” at the famed festival held at The Mann Center in Philadelphia, over the weekend.
However, it wasn’t her energetic performance but the stage props that caught fans’ attention — more specifically, a hat that appeared to salute disgraced former President Donald Trump, reading: “Make America Sexy Again.”
“I know what that hat says. It’s clearly MAGA inspired because she’s a Trump supporter,” alleged one user, referencing Trump’s famous slogan, “Make America Great Again.”
Adding, “Sexyy fans just dumb as she is if they think they can gaslight people. Says a lot about one’s character if they go out of their way to defend this lady….”
“I see some of you said you over her now because of this 😂😂 THIS IS WHAT DID IT?! You seen the other ish and was like YASSSS but the red hat did it 😂😂,” another commented.
Others rushed to the rapper’s defense, writing: “Even if she supports trump what’s the problem? Everyone has their own views.”
Upon learning of the controversy, the red-haired rapper commented directly below the post (X/Twitter, too), asserting that she does not endorse any political figure.
“It’s Sexyy Red 4 President 🇺🇸 I’m my own candidate I’m not endorsing anybody period 💋,” she wrote.
It’s worth noting that Sexyy Red previously expressed support for Trump, stating on the This Past Weekend podcast, “I like Trump.”
“Yeah, they support him in the hood. At first I don’t think people was f**king with him. They thought he was racist, saying little s**t against women. But once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving people that free money. Awe, baby, we love Trump. We need him back in office.”
“We need him back, because, baby, them checks,” she continued. “Them stimulus checks. Trump, we miss you.”I love Trump,” she added. “He funny to me. I used to be watching him talking to people. He used to be calling people fat. He just bold. He funny. We need people like him.”
