Shaq and Shannon Sharpe have engaged in a feud in a new diss track, as the former fires shots at the latter on Friday (May 10).
Shaq trashes Shannon on the track, rapping, “I’m #1. Oh no, Shannon Sharpe, man, your way beneath me / Your whole demeanor is faker than rapper beef be / You’re soft / Before you get to fly, you’d rather tweet me / I was in three different cars when you were in 3 ft. / All I see is dollar signs, they comin’ in 3-D / Make it hot / Ain’t no way around my degrees / You are not in my spot, you are like a pee-wee / Jeweler got him calling me “Rocky” the way I RiRi / I get to the green bag / I don’t mean a lawn mower / Jet flying, foreign drivin’, Best Buyin’, Dom pourer.”
Here’s how the feud got started: In Wednesday’s episode of “Inside the NBA,” the crew presented the league’s MVP award to Joker… and Shaq told the Nuggets superstar he’s the best player, but Shai Gilgeous-Alexander deserves the award this year.
On his “Nightcap” podcast, Sharpe discussed Shaq’s comments with Gilbert Arenas and Chad Johnson, saying O’Neal is “jealous.”
“Shaq should have five MVP’s,” said Sharpe. “He sees a guy like Nikola Jokic that’s not as dominant as him and gets three in four years. When you historically great, they talk about you as a great basketball player, the GOAT, and Shaq is never brought up.”
“I think a part of him is envious of that … it’s hard for me to put someone in the GOAT conversation with one MVP,” he added. “If Shaq would of had my work ethic, he would have had 40,000 points.”
The diss track has received mixed reactions on social media. Sports fans have called the beef “clout-chasing,” while others have praised Shaq and requested a response track from Shannon Sharpe.
“Shannon has to get in the booth ?” commented @melomossberg on X.
An X user encourages the beef between the two legends, tweeting, “lets goooo.”
“Shaq finna put shape in a bod bag like Kendrick is rn,” tweeted another X user.
@ReddyRock1234 wasn’t impressed by Shaq’s bars at Unc Sharpe, commenting, “Nahhh this ain’t it bruh bruh,” while DJ Reminisce wrote, “Shaq barring up lol.”
Shaq has a history of engaging in beef on and off the court. Proclaiming himself as the 50 Cent of the NBA, he has released diss tracks against Damian Lillard, MC Skillz, Lavar Ball, and more. Shaq made his rap debut in 1993 with his platinum-selling album, Shaq Diesel.
Unc Shay Shay responded to Shaq’s diss: “He can take all the shots. Yeah you got more money, yeah you’re more famous than me, yeah you’re more well-known, you’re gonna have more money than I ever have … but nobody will ever say that I was lazy or I cheated myself.”
Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast is the most popular podcast in pop culture right now. Last week, his interview with Katt Williams became the most-watched video on YouTube.
