Snoop Dogg is not only an icon in music but in the business world.
Last week, the USC Marshall School of Business honored Snoop with the Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
Taking place at the “The Entrepreneur As A Brand” event, Snoop was selected as the honoree “for his accomplishments across his many business ventures.”
Snoop also took part in a panel discussion with Engaged Media’s co-founders Cam Fordham and Ben Hiott and Chief Strategy Officer, Jason Zerden. They discussed entrepreneurship, brand deals, and more.
Snoop shared with the audience the importance of having a great team around you.
“I am probably the dumbest person on my team. I love having people who can bring the best out of me. If I’m around people who are good at what they do, it makes me great,” Snoop explained. “I surround myself with the teammates that play to win and I like to put people in the position to shine. It makes me shine.”
Additionally, the “Drop It Like Its Hot” rapper spoke about how he grew his brand.
“My brand is the most important thing to me right now because I control it, how it looks, everything. My brand allows me to do whatever I want.”
“Brand deals must require equity first – I know what I bring. There are certain situations where I won’t do the deal if I could create that myself,” he continued. “I try to create what’s not in the air, so when Snoop Dogg is in the air it’s only his version.”
At the conclusion of the event, the USC marching band played their fight song and some of Snoop’s biggest hits.
Snoop was also in attendance to watch the USC women’s basketball take on the Notre Dame Fightin Irish.
Uncle Snoop garnered plenty of attention for wearing a custom-made JuJu Watkins jacket.
