In a recent interview with Ebro in the Morning, Speedy Morman opened up about the relentless hustle that got him where he is today. Reflecting on his ten-year journey, Morman detailed how he juggled multiple responsibilities early in his career to break into the media industry.
Morman’s story begins with him balancing editorial duties while secretly pursuing opportunities at Complex TV. “I started 10 years ago,” Morman recounted. “I was working internally, trying to finish up my editorial tasks quickly so I could run over to Complex TV and help with whatever needed to be done.” He revealed how he’d complete his tasks rapidly, just to get a chance to work behind the scenes at Complex, handling mics, audio, and setting up equipment.
His dedication paid off when he was offered a chance to screen test for a position. “Their name was rocking with me,” he said, recalling the moment he was offered a weekend anchor role. At the time, Morman was about to enter his senior year of college. Undeterred, he took the Greyhound bus every Friday, traveling five and a half hours to shoot interviews and stand-ups for Complex over the weekend. He’d then return to college by Sunday night.
Morman’s journey wasn’t without its challenges. He noted the shift in the industry’s landscape: “In my 40s now, I see the lack of interest and opportunities. Everyone wants to get paid for their work, which is great, but it means there are fewer opportunities for those starting out.” His experience underscores the balance between fair compensation and the need for entry-level positions that allow new talent to gain experience and break into the industry.
Speedy Morman’s story is a testament to the power of hard work and perseverance, showing how dedication and a willingness to hustle can turn passion into a successful career.
