During a recent set in London at Hyde Park, SZA dropped off a major bomb: a new album is coming. A clip of the performance has circulated online, where the TDE singer can be overheard saying, “New album, you ready?” The crowd immediately roared as she shared a sneak peek of a new track. No information about the album, other than its name — Lana — has been released.
SZA later shared a clip of the song’s lyrics on X, writing, “I know you told stories about me. most of them awful. All of them true. Here’s some for u.” Fans immediately flooded her comment section with anticipation for the track’s release. “This is so beautiful,” one person wrote. Whereas, one fan alleges that the “Supermodel” singer won’t drop the song anytime soon. “I know I won’t hear this full track until 3-6 months from now but at least the snippet ate. Thank you, Solána.” Another user complimented the singer’s increased vocal ability.”Someone’s been in vocal boot camp!!!!! This new tone!?!?! Oh baby we are in for a TREAT!!!!!”
SZA’s Success With ‘S.O.S’
In 2022, SZA released her sophomore album, S.O.S, which quickly found great success. Several artists made guest appearances on the project, including Don Toliver, Phoebe Bridgers, and Travis Scott. S.O.S. spawned hits like “Kill Bill,” “Snooze,” “I Hate U,” and “Shirt.” Upon its release, the album received nine Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year, and won Best Progressive R&B Album. The project worked up as a follow-up to her debut, Ctrl.
Earlier this month, the singer was awarded the Hal David Starlight Award at the 2024 Songwriters Hall of Fame. This would make SZA the second Black woman to receive the honor, following Alicia Keys in 2005. Chairman and legendary musician, Nile Rodgers noted in a statement that it’s an “exciting time for songwriters and music.” While he applauded Beyonce and Taylor Swift for “pushing the envelope of what success looks like,” he claims that the last two years “belonged to SZA.” He continued: “Incredible songwriting, incredible performances, incredible artistry. She so deserves to be the 2024 recipient of the Hal David Starlight Award!”
