Last year, Tems found herself at the center of bizarre pregnancy rumors involving Future. The Nigerian singer recently expressed confusion over why Future, out of all the artists she’s worked with, was at the heart of the speculation. Despite their collaboration on the hit track “Wait for U,” Tems found the choice of Future odd.
“I feel like people take the most controversial thing they can think of… I was thinking, why am I pregnant for Future? Like, why Future? Why him? That’s the craziest thing… why not with Wiz [Kid]? Why not with Drake? Why not someone else?” she said, clarifying that her reaction would have been the same no matter which artist was involved.
Tems has previously shut down the pregnancy rumors. Soon after they began circulating, she took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her frustration, writing, “In conclusion, you people are all mad!!!” During a December interview on The Drive Time Show with The Beat 99.9 FM, she revealed that the rumors escalated to the point of receiving death threats. “I didn’t actually think anybody believed it,” Tems said. “I didn’t know it was serious until I started getting messages, like death threats. Like, ‘How dare you! Of all the people in the world, Future? Really? Really, of all the people?’ And I’ve never even met him in my life. So, it’s crazy.”
Despite the chaos, Future has yet to comment on the pregnancy rumors. Tems also addressed how some fans focus on her natural curves, saying she’s unbothered by it. “I don’t even notice it unless they’re telling me directly like, ‘Oh, you’re beautiful,’” she said, adding, “If they’re happy to see me because of my body — I don’t care. I’m just like, ‘Okay.’”
