Joe Budden is considering expanding his presence beyond the podcasting world and credits Vince Staples for inspiring this new direction.
During a live session on X Spaces on June 23, the popular podcast host expressed his growing interest in scripted content, citing Staples’ new Netflix sitcom as a motivating factor.
“I’m thrilled that ‘The Vince Staples Show’ was successful,” Budden said. “It’s proof of concept and has been on my mind for years. Vince has been helping me behind the scenes on how to write these things out because I just have a bunch of ideas.”
Vince Staples and Joe Budden have developed a budding relationship throughout the years with Staples being a guest on the podcast in numerous occasions. The Joe Budden Podcast is one of the biggest podcasts in today’s media.
In May, Vince Staples shared his thoughts on his show’s success with Rolling Stone. “I’m grateful,” he said. “I got to do something that isn’t really done on that network, or just done in general, with trying to break format and conventional comedy. I’m trying new things. I’m very happy that people embraced it, and we’ll see how they feel about it moving forward. We’re still trying to see what’s going to happen with that. But, looking forward to other opportunities in the medium.”
Staples admitted he was surprised by the positive reception of the five-episode series. “I don’t really make things that people enjoy like that, just to be honest,” he continued. “I think I have a niche fan base. I’ve never had an extreme level of success, so I’m always open to people not liking something or it not being digested right. I was honestly surprised by the way that it was received. But, yeah, man, I just feel like this show went very well, especially for first-time writing, first-time producing, first-time starring in all of these things, I’m grateful for that.”
Following the positive response, “The Vince Staples Show” was renewed for a second season. “The people have spoken and the most riveting, captivating, and polarizing show on Netflix is returning for season 2,” Staples announced. “Get ready for hijinks that only a mother can love. Thank you, Netflix!”
Budden’s admiration for Staples’ success may soon translate into his own ventures in scripted content, as he continues to explore new opportunities and creative outlets.
