The Alchemist revealed the original plan for Kendrick Lamar’s “Meet The Grahams” in a new interview.

The legendary producer unveiled that the production was originally meant to be a gospel record before Kendrick used it to respond to Drake’s “Family Matters” in their feud. In response to a question about the song, Alchemist said:

“That was a gospel record. Swear to God,” he began. The Alchemist was then asked to clarify how K. Dot decided to record over the beat, to which he replied: “I sent it to him beforehand and he had it for a minute. I heard it when everybody else heard it.”

Kendrick released the response that meticulously targets Drake’s mother, father, son, and alleged daughter in May without informing Alchemist. The producer recalled hearing the diss track for the first time while getting a haircut. “I was getting a haircut at the studio when it started playing,” he said. “We were streaming it online. I thought my phone was glitching.”

The feud achieved various accolades, including RIAA certifications, concerts, and video games. In response to “Meet The Grahams,” Drake dropped “The Heart Pt. 6.” Drake’s reaction was immediately followed by Kendrick Lamar’s massive hit “Not Like Us.”

In other news, Alchemist released his latest album, The Genuine Articulate, last week. The album features Schoolboy Q, Conway The Machine, and Larry June. In 2023, June and Alchemist collaborated on the critically acclaimed album The Great Escape

Larry June announced earlier this month that he and Alchemist will follow The Great Escape in 2025.
