According to a new interview, the return of The Clipse is coming.
Vulture released a new interview on Wednesday (June 19) in which the duo revealed to journalist Craig Jenkins that they are working on a new album that will be entirely produced by Pharrell Williams.
Pusha T and Malice’s new track, featuring John Legend, was revealed at the Pharrell-orchestrated Louis Vuitton runway show on Tuesday (June 18). The Virginia natives would confirm a new album when Jenkins asked for an update.
“I think the album shows the supreme maturation of a rap duo,” said Pusha T. “I think this is where you get the difference between taste and filler. This music is curated. This is a high taste-level piece of work. You can only have that level of taste when you have the fundamentals down to a science. I think it’s been definitely missing. Then there’s the competitive aspect.
The brother’s first album in 15 years will be the upcoming album. Fans of The Clipse have been patiently awaiting their return since their 2009 album, Til The Casket Drops. After going on hiatus in 2010 to pursue solo careers, Pusha T and Malice reunited in 2021 on Ye’s Donda album.
The Clipse developed a cult-like following with the signature storytelling on their classic debut album, Lord Willin’ (2002). Malice told Jenkins that the upcoming album will display The Clipse’s growth while maintaining their authenticity.
“It’s bringing the fans along to see the growth, not trying to fit in or fabricate,” said Malice. “It just seems like in other genres of music, they have the luxury of growing. For some reason, we act like were not supposed to evolve. This is what the true evolution of the Clipse looks like. It’s just good to be able to show that and still have high-level raps.”
Pharrell Williams introduced Hip-Hop to The Clipse with the classic song “Grindn’.” The duo and superproducer’s bond dates back to their childhood in Virginia Beach. Pusha T also revealed Pharrell producing The Clipse’s return was necessary.
“Pharrell producing everything is also an ode to the type of music and the type of albums we want to make,” said Pusha. “We still want to make full bodies of work. These are movies, man. These aren’t just songs. This isn’t just a collection of joints we went in and banged out. This is tedious…”
While in Paris, Pusha T and Malice stopped by the popular fashion influencer Maurice Kamara of The People’s Gallery (@thepeoplegallery_) for a drip check and chat. Check out the drip check below.
