Tina Knowles recently discussed the moment she realized Beyoncé was destined for fame and would later become a global icon. Knowles revealed to Glamour, that her performance ability was shocking, especially at so young. She describes her as very “shy” as a child. Tina recalls the Renaissance singer entering her first talent show at seven. “Beyoncé was seven and her dance teacher put her in a talent show with bigger kids,” she began. ” I was like ‘that’s not fair because she’s only seven.’” Knowles said. “And she went in — she was [very] shy— and I mean she got on that stage and commanded the stage.”

Mama Tina says she and her then-husband, Matthew Knowles were in utter shock. “Me and my husband were like, ‘Who is that?’ The confidence came and a joy…I could see it,” she said. She jokes, “…And so she felt so confident she said, ‘I wanna get my trophy, I’m hungry, and I want to go home,’ and I’m like, ‘You don’t even know if you won, like sit down and chill.’ “But it was something that happened on that stage, that I had never seen before…” Other famous moms like Donna Kelce (mother to NFL stars Travis and Jason Kelce), Mandy Teefy (mother to Selena Gomez), and Maggie Baird, the mother of Billie Eilish, joined Knowles for the interview.

“I’m proud to say that I do see the things that I instilled in them, [Like] treating people well”

Later, Knowles noted how important it was to teach her daughters (Bey, Solange, and her “bonus daughter,” Kelly Rowland) respect. “I’m proud to say that I do see the things that I instilled in them — treat people well, do not get stuck on yourself — because we had some moments where I was like, ‘Listen, they can pick up their own suitcases.’”

“‘You look people in the eye, say hello, don’t turn into a diva,’” the proud mom added. “‘That’s not going to work here.’ You have to teach your kids that…I don’t believe that that’s something that they just get because everybody’s trying to handle everything for them and kissing their butts sometimes. And I am like, ‘No, no, no, you’re not helpless.’ So I’m most proud when they’re good people.”
