Tory Lanez is making the most of his prison time by pursuing his education, having recently earned his high school diploma and enrolled in college courses. He is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2022 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Despite his circumstances, Lanez seemed upbeat during a call with Kick streamer Adin Ross on Sunday night (August 4th). He participated in the live stream to provide fans with an update, starting with a request for Alexa to play Ma$e’s “Welcome Back.”
Lanez reassured Ross that he’s doing well, saying, “I’m great. I know that a lot of people sometimes when they hear prison or they hear somebody’s down, they think n*****’s in the corner somewhere bawling his eyes out.” He mentioned that he’s in a positive mental space and focusing on personal growth. Along with working out and staying in shape, Lanez is dedicated to his education. He explained, “A n**** just graduated high school, enrolled in college. Never thought I’d do that. But I’m taking this moment and I’m taking advantage over everything that’s good. I’m a f***** high school dropout that just graduated high school. That s*** matters to me. So, it’s the small things that just have me feeling good about life right now.”
Lanez recently dropped his first music project from behind bars, called Prison Tapes. He informed his fans that he had discovered a way to produce studio-quality music from prison and would be releasing new tracks weekly. “It’s over. I done cracked the f******* code, man,” he proclaimed. “This means that not even these prison walls can stop me from dropping new music. It’s crazy!”
As for his legal situation, Lanez’s attempt to secure a new trial was a topic of discussion, as he submitted an affidavit from his driver. However, prosecutors argued that this wasn’t new evidence since Lanez’s previous lawyer had chosen not to call the driver as a witness.
Amid all this, Lanez remains focused on his music and self-improvement, including earning his diploma, showing resilience and determination to make the best of his situation.
