In the new song, “Thought I Was Dead,” Tyler The Creator fires a shot at new rap star Ian after referencing him in a recent interview.

On the track, Tyler raps, “White boys mocking this sh*t and y’all mad at me / Y’all can suck my dick / Pull up old tweets, pull up old t-shirts, all that, / ’ll moonwalk over that bitch.”

In August, Tyler shared his annoyance on today’s artists with Maverick Carter. According to fans, even though Ian wasn’t mentioned by name by the Igor creator, he is the artist that is being referred to. During the interview, Tyler said:

“This white kid, regular caucasian man, and he’s like mocking Future and Gucci Mane like rap music. And people like, ‘this sh*t hard.  It’s not ever satire, it’s like ‘I’m just joking, I’m just mocking’.  But I’m like, no, no, no.  You can’t.  And I hold rap music so close and I’m a nerd about this sh*t. This is like… weird. I’m looking at it and something about it don’t sit well with me.  In comparison to someone like a Mac Miller or an Eminem.  Who it didn’t seem like they was mocking it, they had a genuine love for it.”

“Thought I Was Dead” is the second track released in preparation for the entertainer’s new album, Chromakopia, announced last week. The song was released with a music video and follows the rap star’s leading single, “Noid.” After the album was announced, Swizz Beatz called it an “instant classic.”

Announcing a new album, Tyler The Creator also announced a world tour and his annual Camp Flog Gnaw festival in Los Angeles. This year’s event includes Vince Staples, Playboi Carti, Sexyy Red, and more.

Chromakopia drops everywhere on Monday, October 28. Tickets for 2024 Camp Flog Gnaw are available now.
