Tyler, The Creator is set to make his acting debut in the upcoming A24 film, Marty Supreme.
Directed by Josh Safdie, the film co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Timothée Chalamet. The film will be loosely inspired by the life of Marty Reisman, a legendary ping pong champion.
Between 1946 and 2002, Reisman won 22 major titles and five bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships. It is notable that he became the oldest person to win a national competition in a racket sport. He passed away in 2012.
While the upcoming film will be Tyler’s motion picture debut, he co-created and starred in the 2012 Adult Swim television series, Loiter Squad. The show aired for three seasons. Now, Tyler is is developing two more TV shows, The Jellies! for Adult Swim and Nuts & Bolts for Viceland.
In 2024, Tyler, The Creator appeared in the new Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show on HBO MAX. In the debut episode, Carmichael would confess his love to Tyler, resulting in the rap star abruptly exiting the conversation.
Tyler would address the conversation during his headlining performance at this year’s Coachella. “You probably seen my homie try to f*ck me on camera,” he said to the crowd. “It was terrible. I told the n*gga no, [and] he said, ‘why don’t we film it?’”
Last month, Tyler, The Creator’s comments about musicians in today’s music not respecting their craft went viral. While talking to Marverick Carter, he said, “I love this art form so much, bro, and there’s so many n***as out right now that aren’t musicians that are getting treated like musicians ’cause they make meme records.”
He continued: “I don’t wanna seem like a hater. Sometimes I have hater energy ’cause I just think I’m that good.”
