On Saturday (Oct.19), Usher went to his hometown of Atlanta, GA for a rally in support of Kamala Harris. He didn’t mince words when speaking about what’s at stake for not only his fellow Georgia residents but for Americans across the country. “I’m supporting Kamala Harris because she fights for everyone’s rights and freedom,” he told the crowd. “With just 17 days left, we have the chance to choose a new generation of leadership. I’m here to support the next president of the United States, Kamala Harris.”

Throughout his speech, Usher emphasized how Harris’ vision for the US, includes “everyone.” In his opinion, Vice President Harris has plans to fight for every citizen, and small business owner, invest in health and community, and provide opportunities for advancement. The Confessions singer also urged Georgia voters to get out and make their voices heard. “We’ve got work to do, Atlanta, to get this campaign across the finish line. I’m counting on you. We can make a difference in this election.”

Usher celebrates 20 years of ‘Confessions’

Back in September, Usher announced that he would be releasing a 20th-anniversary edition of his diamond-selling Confessions album. The project will also include a few new songs from the singer. Released in 2004, the project spun several singles, including “My Boo” featuring Alicia Keys, “Burn,” and “Superstar.” The album is scheduled to be released on streaming platforms on November 1.

In an interview with PEOPLE in February, Usher shared, “There is a great deal of truth in that album…We were having real talk sessions…We would sit around and I would say, ‘Yo, check your egos at the door, and let’s just really be honest. Everybody has to speak their truth.’” Usher also revealed a conversation with publicist Chris Chambers helped inspired him. “He motivated me to think about who I was and what people knew about me. And the result of that was Confessions,” he says. Prior to that conversation, “I had always felt like I would be judged as a result of being vulnerable. Black man, we deal with this.”
