After urging fans to request more episodes of his new Netflix series, The Vince Staples Show, Vince Staples shares additional information about the show’s future in a recent interview with Rolling Stone.
Promoting his new album, Dark Times, Vince expressed excitement about the future of his show despite its uncertainty. “I’m grateful,” he told journalist Andre Gee. “I got to do something that isn’t really done on that network, or just done in general, with trying to break format and conventional comedy. I’m just trying some new things. So, I’m very happy that people embraced it, and we’ll see how they feel about it moving forward. We’re still trying to see what’s going to happen with that. But, looking forward to other opportunities in the medium.”
The Vince Staples Show achieved a rare 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. Rick Ross made a guest appearance in the series’ debut season. Kenya Barris executive produced the new series.
Staples, known for his typically polarizing work, was pleasantly surprised by the positive reception of his show. When asked about the popularity of his content, he explained:
“I don’t usually make things that people universally enjoy,” he admitted. “I think I have a niche fan base. I’ve never experienced extreme mainstream success. So, I’m always prepared for mixed reactions or something not being well-received. Honestly, I was surprised by how well it was received. But, yeah, man, I just feel like this show went very well, and especially for first-time writing, first-time producing, first-time starring in all of these things, I’m grateful for that.”
The Vince Staples Show is available now on Netflix and garnered significant praise. On Friday, Staples released his new album, Dark Times, featuring the new single “Shame On The Devil.”
