BBC reports that the Women For Change organization — a women’s rights advocacy group in South Africa — is petitioning to ban Chris Brown’s upcoming performance. The controversial R&B star has already sold over 94,000 tickets. The performance will take place on Dec.14 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa. While many of Breezy’s fans abroad are rejoicing, Sabina Walter, the executive director of Women For Change found herself “disappointed.”

“When I saw the news that Chris Brown was coming to South Africa, I was shocked,” she tells the outlet. The petition is to “send a message” against “celebrating individuals with a history of violence against women.” It currently has over 20,000 signatures. South Africa, in particular, has high rates of femicide and gender-based violence toward women and girls. “When someone like Chris Brown is given a platform in a country where GBV is at crisis levels, it sends a damaging message, that fame and power outweigh accountability.”

Chris Brown Facing New Allegation Of Sexual Assualt

Along with an upcoming documentary, following Brown’s violent history, new allegations of sexual assault are coming out against the singer. One of the accusers, Liziane Gutierrez  – who appeared anonymously in the documentary trailer — has now come forward. She recently shared the reason behind her involvement in the forthcoming doc via a post on Instagram. “Liar, clout chaser, ridiculous are just some of the things I have heard over the years since I decided to tell what happened to me,” she began the post.

“I’m not sure if I’m psychologically ready to face the consequences of appearing in this documentary, including financial consequences since I signed a non-disclosure agreement,” Gutierrez wrote. She added, “Several women agreed to participate and share their stories. We all went through a similar situation. We can’t be against domestic violence and simply ignore some cases, or even worse, blame the victim.” Chris Brown: A History of Violence will premiere on ID on Oct. 27. Check out the trailer below.
