It’s back!
As hip hop continued to grow in the late 1980’s into the early 1990’s, MTV was forced to create a show that would feature the music from the genre.
The duo of Dr. Dre and Ed Lover as well as Fab Five Freddy held bring the culture to a new era, and introduce hip hop to a brand new audience on a television network that was primarily featuring pop and rock music.
In today’s world of reboots it looks like the show is making a comeback!
The brand is going to relaunch with a 30th anniversary event at the Barclays Center June 1. After that it will continue as a “linear and digital series” according to Pitchfork.
The show ran from 1988 to 1995.
