A Tennessee man who received life in prison for killing Young Dolph was sentenced to an additional 35 years.
According to the Associated Press, Justin Johnson was found guilty of two other convictions. He was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder and being a felon in possession of a gun.
During the sentencing hearing, prosecutor Paul Hagerman claimed Johnson already had three aggravated assault convictions before the killing of Dolph. Hagerman also said Johnson showed “no hesitation” to commit the murder-for-hire in a public place, and described the deadly encounter as a “stone-cold execution motivated by money and fame.”
Dolph’s sister said the family is filled with “anger, anxiety and grief” over her brother’s murder. In a statement, she said Dolph “created a legacy that will endure long after this tragedy.”
“In a world full of envy, jealousy, and arrogance, many fail to realize the impact of their actions until it’s too late,” the statement read.
Luke Evans, Johnson’s attorney, said that his client was “manipulated by others to shoot Young Dolph”. He also requested a new trial for Johnson claiming the evidence was not sufficient enough to convict Johnson. For the murder, Johnson will not be eligible for parole for 50 years under the murder conviction alone.
Johnson has been found guilty of Dolph’s murder on September 26, 2024, after a four-day trial. He was convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
On November 17, 2021, Dolph was shot and killed outside Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies in Memphis. Johnson, along with Cornelius Smith, who confessed to being a gunman in the case, fired shots into the bakery. During the trial, Smith testified that the murder was a $100,000 hit ordered by Anthony Mims, aka Big Jook, the brother of rapper Yo Gotti and a member of CMG.
