After more than two years, Young Thug’s RICO case is officially over.
As part of a non-negotiated plea deal, the Atlanta rapper pled guilty to six counts, including participating in criminal street gang activity.
In what was the longest trial in Georgia’s history, Judge Paige Reese Whitaker handed down a 40-year sentence to serve five years in prison but commuted to time served. He will serve 15 years on probation as part of the plea agreement. 20 years of his sentence will be backloaded if he violates his probation.
Also, Thug is barred from Atlanta unless he’s attending a funeral and or family wedding.
Following the verdict, Mariah the Scientist, Thug’s girlfriend, issued a statement expressing her gratitude.
“Thank you, God, thank you, God. This is more than what we prayed for. We are so grateful, this is the greatest opportunity we’ve ever been presented with and we are so grateful. Thank you Judge Paige Whitaker for giving us the opportunity to move forward with our life,” the statement read.
She also thanked “Brian Steel Keith Adams and every attorney” who worked on the case.
“THANK YOU! I cannot say it enough, I cannot repay you for this. You have changed our lives, Jeffery’s life and mine,” she continued. “Thank you to everyone who has been there for us, every fan, who believed in us and prayed for us.”
In 2022, Williams and more than two dozen others were charged under Georgia’s RICO Act.
Prosecutors alleged that Thug was the leader of a criminal street gang that committed numerous violent crimes such as murder in Atlanta dating back a decade.
They claimed that YSL — the acronym for the artist’s label, Young Stoner Life Records stood for Young Slime Life, a street gang in Atlanta affiliated with the national Bloods gang.
Just this week, two other defendants have agreed to plea deals.
Quamarvious Nichols agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act on Tuesday, (Oct.29.)
He was sentenced to 20 years to serve seven in custody.
On Wednesday, (Oct. 30), Rodalius Ryan accepted a plea deal, also being charged with violating the RICO Act.
