In court this week, Young Thug wore a black hoodie on Wednesday (Oct. 23) bearing a heartfelt message for his girlfriend of three years, R&B singer Mariah the Scientist.
The hoodie, which read “I ❤️ Mariah,” was a touching tribute following Mariah’s recent, unsuccessful attempt to celebrate their third anniversary together through a virtual jail visit.
According to TMZ, Mariah went to Fulton County Jail in September to plan a surprise for Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams. She purchased a “Happy Anniversary” banner, even driving 30 minutes to the facility. However, once she arrived, officials informed her that the visitation system was down.
Frustrated, Mariah took to social media to describe her experience. “I drove all the way to this jail, with my little ‘Happy Anniversary’ sign and Scotch tape,” she said. “But when I got there, they told me the system was down. I went through all this just to find out I couldn’t see my man.”
Despite the setbacks, Mariah expressed determination to try again and stay connected with Young Thug throughout his incarceration. The two have become a widely discussed couple, especially after their private phone call from jail leaked online earlier this year. The incident sparked a wave of media attention, but Mariah insists it has only strengthened their relationship.
Mariah discussed her visits to court proceedings in a September episode of the podcast Unapologetically Angel, hosted by basketball star Angel Reese.
“It’s kind of like [a long-distance relationship], but I get to see him in court, so I go there often,” she explained. “Sometimes I even fall asleep in the courtroom, just so I can be near him. I love him.” She added, “If someone told me a few months into our relationship that he’d be locked up, I wouldn’t have believed it. But we’re still going strong.”
Meanwhile, Young Thug’s trial, part of a larger investigation into his alleged involvement with the YSL organization, is approaching the one-year mark. Judge Paige Reese Whitaker hinted this week that the case may soon be declared a mistrial without prejudice, citing procedural issues with the prosecution.
As the legal proceedings continue, Mariah’s frequent court appearances show her steadfast support for Young Thug, who remains one of Atlanta’s most influential figures in hip-hop.
