Outside of Young Thug, Gunna was the center of attention during the YSL RICO trial after accepting a plea and admitting that Young Stoner Life is a record label and gang.

YSL Mondo addressed the situation on his Instagram story on Sunday (August 4), defending Gunna. “I should’ve never spoken about Gunna because technically he didn’t rat,” Mondo wrote in an Instagram story. “He just folded under pressure and should’ve stayed loyal until everything was over. All the originals know he didn’t do anything and wasn’t around from the beginning.”

Continuing, he expressed frustration over someone else who he claims is a real informant and is being hailed. He continued: “He wasn’t going to do any real time regardless. I feel bad because now a guy who is an actual informant is running around the city getting glorified and smiling like he didn’t send multiple people to jail. I was mad and hurt seeing my brother go through this after he uplifted so many people.”

Mondo apologized for labeling Gunna a rat and accepted responsibility for his comments. “I’m a real person, and I’m not afraid to admit when I was wrong,” he concluded. “Saying Gunna is a rat was wrong, but I can’t take it back. I have to stand by what I said and accept the consequences. I’m glad Gunna is out here putting the brand and label on his back.”

Released in December 2022, Gunna received backlash from several artists loyal to Young Thug. Lil Baby and Lil Durk, former collaborators of Gunna, have distanced themselves. However, others, including Offset, Wheezy, and Turbo, have supported his recent work.

As of yet, Gunna has not responded to Mondo while on the Bittersweet tour. The YSL RICO trial has received a new judge after the recusal of Fullton County judge upon Young Thug and his legal teams request.
