The ongoing YSL RICO trial saga continues, and most recently, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is purportedly leveraging the case for attention. According to Billboard, Courtney Kramer — the Republican challenger for the DA’s office — Willis used the case to “bring fame to herself.” In a statement by her campaign on Friday (Aug. 16), Kramer says she was “highly concerned and disappointed” regarding the “lack of prosecutorial oversight.” Young Thug and his co-defendants have been on trial since November 2023.

“As time goes on, the public has witnessed a trial that is undoubtedly over-prosecuted by attorneys who have repeatedly been admonished for lack of trial preparation. A complete and utter waste of the court’s time,” the statement continues. Kramer says an “endless amounts of taxpayer dollars” is being spent over nothing. Kramer stated she would motion to end the prosecution upon her election. “If I am elected as the next District Attorney of Fulton County, I promise to end this prosecution immediately,” she says.

The YSL Rico case filled with twists and turns

“I challenge my opponent to do the same thing, the right thing, and end this prosection. And release the accused in this case who is being held without bond.” Since launching in November 2023, the YSL RICO case has had many twists and turns. In July, the newly appointed Judge Shukura L. Ingram had recused herself from the case. The Fulton County judge removed herself due to impartiality possibilities due to previous employment with the case’s arrested ex-deputy. Apparently, they had an improper relationship with Young Thug’s co-defendant Christian Eppingee, also known as Big Bhris.

The order of Judge Ingram’s recusal was filed with the Fulton County clerk on Wednesday morning. It reads: “Because this Court’s former assigned deputy could be called as a witness in any future proceedings in this case, the Court may be called upon to assess this deputy’s credibility or rule on matters related to her criminal prosecution. This may undermine the public’s confidence in the impartiality of the proceedings.”
