Yung Miami has opened up about focusing on solo music following a rumored split from her City Girls partner, JT. In an interview with Complex, Miami revealed that they were in “different spaces” after releasing their latest album, RAW, but emphasized that they remain on good terms. RAW reached only 117 on the US Billboard 200 in October 2023.

“I had to really get back in my bag. People had just been talking to me crazy… So just going through s**t really motivated me to get in the studio and make music,” Miami shared. She admitted that RAW “didn’t do too well,” which inspired her to pursue solo music. “I think when the City Girls album [RAW] just dropped, and it didn’t do too well, and we was just trying to do our press run. The whole rollout of the album was just so bad because we was just in two different spaces,” she explained.

As they’ve grown older, Miami noted that they’ve naturally drifted into their own projects. JT has been on the West Coast, while Miami remained in her hometown. “When she doing her own thing, it just worked for her. And when I’m doing my own thing, it worked for me. But when we get together as a group, it just wasn’t connecting,” Miami said.

The City Girls first rose to fame in 2018, just before JT served a 24-month sentence for identity theft. Despite this, Yung Miami kept the group’s momentum alive, gaining major attention with Drake’s co-sign on “In My Feelings.”

While some trolls labeled her the “weakest link,” Yung Miami remained undeterred. Despite RAW’s lukewarm reception, the duo delivered two successful albums over six years. Now, they are exploring separate musical paths. JT’s “Okay” and Yung Miami’s “CFWM” featuring Skilla Baby are both gaining traction.

“People had just been talking to me crazy… So just going through s**t really motivated me to get in the studio and make music,” Miami told Complex. “CFWM” marks the beginning of her “Yams era,” embodying Miami’s spirit.

Additionally, Yung Miami is working on a new season of her talk show, Caresha, Please, showcasing her personality while engaging with contemporaries. Despite personal life rumors, especially about her relationship with Sean “Diddy” Combs, she remains focused on staying positive. “You can’t let people dictate your life and tell you what you can and can’t do,” she said. “You got to keep going and block out the noise.”

As she embarks on her new musical journey and prepares for the next season of her show, Yung Miami is determined to expand her horizons. Complex discussed her latest single, “CFWM,” her relationship with JT, and her approach to handling negativity. This interview took place on May 13, just days before footage of Diddy assaulting Cassie was released by CNN.

Earlier this year, Yung Miami and JT had a heated argument on social media, leading fans to speculate about the end of City Girls. However, they quickly reconciled and reaffirmed their bond.
