After the world was introduced to iLoveMakonnen in 2014 via his smash hit “Tuesday,” there were constant rumors about his sexuality. Simply because of his demeanor, people speculated that he may be gay, and occasionally his comments seemed to speak toward that as well.
In the 2.5 years it’s been, the former OVO singer has never directly addressed the rumors, but last night, he decided that it was finally time to do so.
“As a fashion icon, I can’t tell u about everybody else’s closet, I can only tell u about mine, and it’s time I’ve come out,” Makonnen wrote on Twitter. “And since y’all love breaking news, here’s some old news to break, I’m gay. And now I’ve told u about my life, maybe u can go life yours.”
This comes just one day after Chance The Rapper’s younger brother, Taylor Bennett, came out as bisexual. Let’s hope this helps to begin taking away the stigma of being gay in the hip-hop community!
