Performing at Hot 97’s Summer Jam in Hip Hop mecca has already been a crown achievement for emerging rap stars.
Nipsey Hussle was on the verge of superstardom when he debuted Summer Jam in 2014. He made headlines with the popularity of his $100 Crenshaw mixtape and Proud 2 Pay campaign.
At Summer Jam, Hussle amazed the early-bird crowd at MetLife Stadium with his fan-favorite tracks such as “Key 2 The City,” “U See Us,” and “All Get Right.” “Key to the city but they got him rocking a side stage during the day,” wrote a fan in the comment section of Nipsey’s performance on YouTube.
Summer Jam 2014 included an all-star lineup of Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Wiz Khalifa, The Roots, Nas, and more. Nicki Minaj, Drake, and Young Money were one of the night’s biggest highlights.
Following his set, Nipsey spoke about making his highly-anticipated debut album, Victory Lap. The Grammy-nominated album includes hit songs “Double Up,” “Rap N***as,” and “Grinding All My Life.”
In March, a Los Angeles judge approved monthly inheritance payments for Nipsey Hussle’s children from his $11 million estate. His two children, Emani and Kross, will receive $5 million initially, followed by annual payments.
Nipsey Hussle passed away in 2019. His girlfriend, Lauren London, wrote a heartfelt letter in April to commemorate the 5th anniversary of Neighborhood Nip’s death.
“If you know me, you know March is always tough for me.” wrote London. “31 days of holding my breath. This day decided to fall on Easter Sunday this 2024, interesting… Considering your name #GodWillRise. Energy never dies… I love you. Eternal. [blue heart emoji] [checkered flag emoji].”
Hot 97 celebrates Summer Jam’s 30th anniversary on June 2 at the UBS Stadium. Hosted by Hot 97’s Ebro, Peter Rosenberg, Laura Stylez, and Nessa. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.
