Dre Day.
50 Cent, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, close friends, family, and more were in Los Angeles on Tuesday (March 19) as iconic producer Dr. Dre was immortalized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The 59-year-old award-winning entertainer – who’s created some of the greatest productions ever in music, launched countless superstars, and created classic songs such as “Next Episode,” “Still Dre,” and “Gin and Juice” – was honored with a cemented star right next to his first protege and longtime friend, Snoop Dogg. Jimmy Iovine, former Interscope executive and long-time business partner, was present to support the Compton native as he received one of the highest honors in the industry. Others in attendance included legendary radio personality Big Boi, recording artist Kurupt, and Dre’s children.
Dr. Dre began his legendary career in 1988 as part of N.W.A., one of the pioneers of Gangsta Rap. After N.W.A., he became one of the most sought-after producers in hip-hop and helped some of the biggest names in the genre become legends under his guidance. Following the signing of Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, and The Game, Dr. Dre became a billionaire through his signature headphones and speakers known as Beats By Dre.
Dr. Dre’s sound has been credited as one of the most influential from Kanye West to Timbaland to Hit-Boy. He is frequently considered as one of the most iconic figures in the history of West Coast Hip Hop, often mentioned in the same breath as the legendary faces of Mount Rushmore.
Other accolades include over a dozen Grammy nominations, inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2008, and the Grammys presents annual Lifetime Achievement Award in his honor, which was presented to Jay-Z at last month’s awards.
Following the Walk of Fame ceremony, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and 50 Cent sat down with Jimmy Kimmel to reflect on their history together.
Dr. Dre’s legacy continues as he works on new music with Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent. Detox is one of the most highly anticipated albums in hip-hop since the early 2000s.
